Savageheads, G.L.O.S.S., Glazed Baby, Clara Engel, Lucern Raze, HOLY, No Love

This great punk EP from Boston's Savageheads was released last June, but I just found out about them through CNQ's favorite Croatian distro, Doomtown Records, who has the mp3s for sale for $2 and change - they may have the vinyl too, I'm not sure. Doesn't look like anyone else on the Internet does.

This transgender hc awesomeness from Olympia has a 7" in the works. It's pay what thou wilt for mp3s in the meantime. Dig that d-beat:

I feel like I mighta shared this already, but just in case, it bears repeating. These Rhode Island noise punks recorded this in 1996, and then more was added a couple of years later. It's their last recording and Providence's Atomic Action released it onto the web, 10 songs for $5. Oh man, it's awesome:

CNQ's favorite Toronto-based singer-songwriter has two new rad tracks available for $2 USD. I don't think I've ever seen Canadian money. Maybe they just trade in good vibes. J/K. No joke though, Engel gets better and better with each release. A singular voice and talent:

Sorry State has a new single out in their North Carolina series of singles. This is their second, sounds great. The first one featuring the The Davidians is really good too.

New Punk 45 and LP for Charity from The Great Dismal Swamis and Anti-Flag; New Clara Engel; New Punk from Virginia; Old Peruvian Funk; New Breakbeat

Windian Records is releasing a special edition of The Great Dismal Swamis' new 45, Phantom Tollbooth. All the proceeds from the sale go to the Travis Jackson Memorial fund. Jackson was the owner of Windian Records, and passed away earlier this year in a highway accident. It's limited to 67 copies, and you can order it here. The Great Dismal Swamis are absolutely fantastic:

In November, Anti-Flag's A-F Records plans to release a compilation called THIS CONCERNS EVERYONE. It will feature one of my fave guitarists, Rage Against The Machine's Tom Morello, among other cool folks, doing covers of protest and rebel songs. Awesome! It'll be on vinyl, limited to 1000 copies, with neat color variants. You can pre-order here.

If that wasn't super-cool enough, A-F is asking folks to submit protest songs of our own. They want MP3s, and you can send 'em to thisconcernseveryone@a-frecords.com, or on social networks by tagging the post with #ThisConcernsEveryone. Per their press release:

"The submitted tracks will be featured and promoted on A-F Records’ SoundCloud player...a portion of proceeds from the record’s sales will be donated to the Right To Heal Campaign, which is a joint effort between The Iraq Veterans Against The War, Organization of Women’s Freedom In Iraq and the Federation of Workers Councils and Unions In Iraq."

The UK's Tiger Milk Records is taking pre-orders for Peru Bravo: Funk, Soul & Psych from Peru's Radical Decade, on LP, CD, and MP3. It's tunes from '68 to '74. Man oh man, that is cool.

Clara Engel Sale on Bandcamp

CNQ's favorite Canadian folk singer/songwriter Clara Engel has a special going on her bandcamp page. Until September 1st, the discount code-word "caviaporcellus" will get you 15% off any purchase on her site.

Ya know, Normie, Cavia Porcellus is the, ahh, scientific name for your standard guinea pig. (That's a "Cheers" reference, btw.) Clara has been busy and CNQ has been regrettably lax in keeping up with her output. I'll rectify that by getting something with her generous codeword sale. You should do the same!

Here's something off her most recent, "Looking-Glass Fire," which she released last month. This is wild, check it out. I'm learning to play guitar myself finally and I'd like to eventually be able to do blues and folk stuff. This blows me away:

I engaged Kurt Schitlicher again today on Twitter, and realized this guy, moreso than being a fat cat mouthpiece, is just a failed comedian, a hack insult comic who couldn't cut it in the nightclubs. So he got a gig writing hate-filled propaganda for a Republican nabob, and now panders to the absolute lowest denominator - the gullible, the ignorant, the insane, and the people who wear hats and have jobs, but come on, we know what they are.

After realizing Schitlicher is just a hack, I read him for filth on twitter. I'd never talk to a human like that, but all of my interactions with Schitlicher have revealed him to be not human, but a cartoon caricature that spews hateful rhetoric for a member of the Republican fundamentalist side of the establishment. So I let him have it. He and I both know what he really is, so why mince words? In the end, going back and forth with that dummy got me a couple of new twitter followers, and several extra hits on my little blog here. What did Schitlicher get? Well, he had to cut and paste his gibberish-filled responses to my tweets, and had to read some pretty nasty stuff about his mother. I'll call that: point for CNQ.

So, thanks, Kurt. I sincerely hope you get everything that's coming to you!

Clara Engel: "Lick My Fins" (2009)

Clara Engel is a Toronto-based singer/songwriter whose haunting avant-folk will turn on fans of Will Oldham, Patti Smith, Nick Cave, PJ Harvey, Diamanda Galas, Tom Waits, Vic Chesnutt, and Man Man.

Clara's a busy woman: the UK's Vox Humana released her first vinyl EP, Madagascar, last year. Italy's Backwards Music has just released a full-length LP of her's called Tender.

She's currently working on a new album, which Montreal's Talking Skull will be releasing sometime before 2013. She's using crowdfunding to get it done, which is a cool idea.

She has a new EP called "The Lovebird's Throat," coming out on Bandcamp on July 17th. Keep your ears peeled for that! Here's a cool interview with Clara from 2011 where you can also see some of her artwork.

This is pro work and I'm super-stoked to get to feature it on Clean, Nice, Quiet!
