Bigflower (Liverpool); Die Geister Beschwören (California); No Monster Club (Ireland); PoT/MaN (Phoenix); Wóma (UK)

Here's some psych, post-punk, power pop and experimental tunes tonight.

CNQ fave Bigflower has a new track out. Quality as always from the psych-leaning post-rock band out of Liverpool:

Die Geister Beschwören is a "Portland/Humboldt psych-folk ensemble," and their new digital six song release, Ghosts, This Is Survival is worth a listen for "mossfolk" aficionados. Good stuff:

No Monster Club is a three piece out of Ireland, and their first album in five years, deadbeat effervescent is due out Feb. 11 from Popical Island/Emotional Response Records. The single, "Save the Circus," is a killer power pop track:

PoT/MaN is post-punk out of Phoenix, also a three piece. This s/t EP is their debut. Achieves post-punk heaviosity, I'm a fan:

England's Hiru Records has a new release, an improvised drone-based album by the artist Wóma called Drán & Ongalnes. Created solely using an experimental, resonating steel instrument called a bow chime, dig it:

Corntuth (Brooklyn); Little Beards (Dallas); WSZY (Poland); and Kingfisher (Sweden)

Back in late July I posted a good review of Brooklyn-based ambient producer and musician Corntuth's latest album The Desert Is Paper Thin, and since then it's been a feature on Bandcamp Daily, which is always nice when I get to scoop them. (Bandcamp Daily I used to think was uncool, but I have since come around and now I think they're doing a good job). The vinyl for The Desert Is Paper Thin is now 80% funded. Meditative "Ambient Americana" is a good way to describe it, take a listen, and if you like it, you should head over to Corntuth's Bandcamp page to contribute so the album gets funded. I did, it's great stuff and should sound rad on the hi-fi:

You know Syf Records has been cranking out the jams, as that's what they do. Here's some of the newest stuff from the lo-fi, high powered Polish micro-label, and not what you'd expect, either. Instead of the raw, noisey rock y electro that Syf typically trucks in, WSZY's debut EP, .GNIDY is post-rock -- or maybe, heavy jazz, man, yeh -- Polish heavy jazz. I think you would dig it the most. Like a lo-fi cross between Morphine and Tortoise, the 3 song instrumental EP is certainly a lot more intentionally musical than previous Syf releases, the ones I've heard anyway. Syf cranks out a lot of material, which is a good thing, but I'm not able to keep up with the expanding catalog like I'd like to. At any rate, you can order WSZY's .GNIDY on cassette via the Syf Records Bandcamp page, and you should, this is exceptional stuff, a ton of fun:

That Little Beards single, "What's The Point (It's Funny)", from their forthcoming album The Legend of Spectacular Living, is now streaming, and you can pre-order the album on Bandcamp. Smartwave gothy post-punk from Dallas, check it out:

Kingfisher is a rock duo from Sweden and their new single, "Lover to Discover," is available on Bandcamp. They describe themselves as a combination of '90s MTV Rock and 00s British indie, which I think sums up this single nicely:

New Music From Bandcamp

Nanaki is Postcode's guitarist Mikie Daugherty, as well as CNQ's favorite instrumental guitar post-art-rock sound from the Isle of Man. Mikie has released his first full-length as Nanaki since 2003:

Also from Small Bear Records and the Isle of Man, the rad Bordellos and another Manx band called Schizo Fun Addict have released, per the Small Bear press release, "a transatlantic collaboration between (these two) cult mentalists." It'll be a split cassette release with all proceeds going to Save the Children. The first song, Schizo Fun Addict's AM Story, is great. Their other song, "Endorphin Portal," is a Rebirth thing I'm not into. The two Bordellos songs are boss. Small Bear Records is giving these tunes away gratis, but encourages y'all to make a small donation to the charity of your choice:

Charity is important. Today I gave a fiver to a woman holding a sign on the side of the feeder road. She told me it would be put to good use. Lady, you can put it to whatever use you want. We wished each other Happy New Year. As Tom Waits sed, "beggin' on the freeway/about as hard as it gets."

Chicago's the Lemons has a new couple of cool surfy, trip-poppy songs out:

Valid until 11:59PM on January 1st, CNQ's favorite Canadian songstress Clara Engel has a code word, "uneasyspirit,", which gets you 15% off any of Clara's albums on bandcamp.

I heart powerviolence it turns out. This from Edinburgh, UK, has some vinyl you can order:

California's Bad Daddies is some swank 5th wave riot grrrl action and they have a split out with a band called Hard Left:

HC from Berlin:

Happy New Year. Hello, 2015!

New Instrumental Post-Rock from Nanaki and CARBs

Isle of Man rockers Postcode were featured in a recent CNQ post. Postcode guitarist Mikie Daugherty also has an instrumental post-rock project called Nanaki, and released an EP under that moniker called Afterlight on bandcamp this past January. The mp3s on bandcamp are pay what thou wilt; on the bandcamp site you can also order a limited edition handmade and stenciled CDR, featuring inserts, a cover by Leeds-based artist Grace Turner, and 6 tracks not featured on the download-only release.

Daughterty knows what he's doing here. Give "Afterlife" a listen for sure. Here's the first song off the EP:

Speaking of righteous instrumental post-rock, here's my buddy Chris Wilson's bedroom project CARBs with a meditative new track:
