Got back on Fallout 4 with a new character, Red Blackhead, and a random start DLC, which takes away the burden of being the Chosen One or whatever. Such a burden. Still finding new things in that game. Never had an NPC talk about Halloween in the game when it's actually Halloween in the game! And met a guy who wouldn't sell me his dog. What a great game.

This Talactus S/T was released back in July. 13 or so minutes long, 15 song Argentinian punk album that is enjoyable all the way thru:

SHOVEIT is a three-piece punk band from Miami, FLA. Their debut EP "EFF U" is a tight 4 song, 9 minute effort that draws on 90s and early oughts pop-punk. That's usually not my bag, but this EP is highly listenable. I got it on repeat. Click the link to EFF U and it takes you to a site called Songwhip, which then directs you to the streaming service of your choice to listen to EFF U, which is neat.

Saw Palehound from Boston open up for Big Thief at Trees earlier in the week. Amazing vox + rockin' Americana, this is off a 13 track album that you should definitely listen to and certainly see the band if you get a chance:

The Good Ones, RWANDA, you should be loved. I love this 12 song album, which clocks in around 40 minutes. I can't think of a reason why you wouldn't love this, it's beautiful:

Checking Out My Soundcloud Feed

New Quieteer Kale and his band Doctor Nod got a super positive shout-out on Dynamite Hemorrhage this weekend, which is one of our fave podcasts, and we couldn't be more excited. Check out the full show here when you get a chance:

Kale and I have been blowing up each other's phones with ideas for CNQ here lately, it's been a lot of fun. He recommended I get more into Soundcloud, which I neglect in favor of Bandcamp for various reasons. But, I think he may be right -- there's cool sound to be heard on Soundcloud as well. So here's some new stuff from my neglected Soundcloud feed.

I've been grooving to the damaged pop sound of Japan's Boys Age for a while now. Boys Age has a new 13 song album called Pangea available for free download (on Bandcamp, btw), but here's a song from that album from Soundcloud anyway:

Ermanna Melli: "Avevi Ragione" (New Star Records #1004, 1965)

New Star Records operated in Milan, Italy from the 1960s to the 80s. Ermanna Melli's "Avevi Ragione" ("You Were Right") is the B-side to "Cos'e' Questo Desiderio" ("What's This Desire"). Both tracks were written by Crisci-Gial, and I can't find any info on that songwriting team. Both tracks were produced by maestro Angelo Camis, who also founded the label.

I can't find much on Ermanna Melli herself, and this seems to be her only work for New Star - maybe her only release period. Per the site Music & Memory, a backing band called The Whole may assist her on this record. This ebay listing has a picture of the original sleeve of the 45.

Like I said, both tracks on this 45 were written by a team named Crisci-Gial. I did find a poem, "Mary Was The Poetess," on the site poetrysoup. It's copyright 2009 by Andrew Crisci, whom I believe is Mary Crisci's brother. In the poem he talks about how Mary wrote the song "Cos'e Questo Desiderio" when she was 18, and it was recorded by Ermanna Melli, "from the city of Forli." The poem is a very pretty tribute to his sister, you should check it out.

Both the A and B sides of this 45 are enjoyable 60s pop. Kind of reminds of me of French ye-ye. Someone on Youtube beat me to the punch with the A-side (posted below), but the B-side, to my knowledge, has yet to be featured on the Internets.

I forget where I picked this up; either at B4 or at a Half-Priced Books. I think it was mixed in with a stack of Latin 45s, if memory serves.

Ric Manrique, Jr.: D'Yos Lamang Ang Nakakaalam 12" (1970s)

My lovely wife picked this up for me at a Goodwill for a buck. According to Ric Manrique Jr.'s wikipedia entry, he is one of the two Filipino "Kings of Kundiman," the other being Ruben Tagalog, whom I first learned about through the music blog Crud Crud, which was my favorite music blog for years and is now sadly defunct. I think I've mentioned before that Crud Crud was a direct inspiration for Clean, Nice, Quiet. Anyway. Sniff.

This LP features 12 lovely Kundiman songs, Kundiman being a genre of traditional Filipino love jawns. The LP was put out by the Phillipine's own Villar Records, which, as their Wikipedia entry states, was founded by the late Manuel P. Villar, the "Father of Philippine Recording." Very interesting history, check out Villar Records' Wikipedia entry when you're done here.

I contacted Villar Records and Peter J. Villar was kind enough to respond, giving me the go ahead to share a couple of these great Manrique Jr. tracks. He says this album was released in the early '70s (There's no date on it, and the album isn't listed on Discogs or 45cat. Here somebody has it for sale on ebay for $40! So I'm very lucky the wife picked it up for a buck at that Goodwill.

Here's the Villar Records website, but Mr. Villar suggests CDBaby for their CD 1995 re-issue of "D'Yos Lamang Ang Nakakaalam," as well as more of their classic Kundiman releases.

So, strictly for lovers, here's the title track off "D'Yos Lamang Ang Nakakaalam," which, according to the write-up on CDBaby for the re-issue, was written by Don Manolo Villar, with music by Leopoldo Silos.

Andre Kostelanetz and His Orchestra: Lure of the Tropics (Columbia Masterworks A-1099, 1955)

For Christmas I hope to get some serious record cleaning stuff, but until then, please enjoy the snaps, crackles and pops on this lovely piece of exotica.

Here's the wikipedia entry on Andre Kostelanetz, "one of the pioneers of easy listening music." Very interesting music history.

There musta originally been three 7" discs included with this sleeve but I only have two. Presented are all the songs on my copy that don't skip. I picked this up at Vintage Freak over in Hurst for a nominal fee. Totally worth whatever I paid for it - probably under $5.00.
