New Rock'n'Roll from Bandcamp & Youtube

Good Lord Almighty it's hot in Texas. I got a few things to share tonight. First up, the latest album from Freak Genes, "Qwak Qwak," is absolutely incredible. It's available via the UK's Drunken Sailor Records, and was released back in April, so I'm late to the party on this gem, but better late than never. So many good songs on this 17 song album. Indebted to Television Personalities, Wire, the Buzzcocks, and the Kinks, their press release says this album's "original inspiration was the Raincoats LP Odyshape. So far, they sound nothing like that."

I love this shit tho. They've got a video coming up for "Give Way," and you can get the album on vinyl from Sorry State Records. Oh, man, this is the good stuff:

Full disclosure -- Metal Postcard is amazing. Here's a new one from the Hong Kong based label:

And you know the first full length release of my own no-fi, electro-brut music project, Occult Character, is on Metal Postcard, right?

Australia's Tom Ugly has a new catchy single. At first I thought, oh, this is good but it's too poppy, but it's growing on me:

Next up is a new video by Sage from Ontario, the single off their new self-titled debut album. God, I love music videos, and I'm glad when new bands do them, and I'm glad when they contact me to feature them. Cool shit, check it out:

From Hartford, CT, a track off a new 6 song album you can get on CD and dl on bancamp, a good first effort:

Checking Out My Soundcloud Feed

New Quieteer Kale and his band Doctor Nod got a super positive shout-out on Dynamite Hemorrhage this weekend, which is one of our fave podcasts, and we couldn't be more excited. Check out the full show here when you get a chance:

Kale and I have been blowing up each other's phones with ideas for CNQ here lately, it's been a lot of fun. He recommended I get more into Soundcloud, which I neglect in favor of Bandcamp for various reasons. But, I think he may be right -- there's cool sound to be heard on Soundcloud as well. So here's some new stuff from my neglected Soundcloud feed.

I've been grooving to the damaged pop sound of Japan's Boys Age for a while now. Boys Age has a new 13 song album called Pangea available for free download (on Bandcamp, btw), but here's a song from that album from Soundcloud anyway:

Cool as always hip-hop from Mello Music Group and Apollo Brown:

From Now-Again Records, jazz/spoken word from either 1975, or 1980. World's Experience Orchestra only had two albums, one put out in '75 and the other put out in '80, and I'm not sure which one this was on. It's hep regardless:

African music from 1999, I guess, courtesy World Circuit Records:

Most anything from Burger Records is an easy share. Turns out they post a lot on Soundcloud and for some reason don't have much of a presence at all on Bandcamp:

Burger also has a podcast they're putting out on Soundcloud, which is cool. I haven't listened to all of this yet but I'm putting it here to do so:

From Total Punk Records:

And finally, courtesy Relapse Records, this was originally released in 1998, and then re-issued in 2008. I dunno why it's new on Soundcloud, but it's pretty rad:

Rockin', Rollin'.

Whoa! This catches us up to the first of December. Happy Hanukkah from CNQ! This is from 2012, but still resonates today:

The Isle of Man's Small Bear Records has a new pay-what-thou-wilt Christmas album, streaming for free on their bandcamp page. It features CNQ faves Postcode, Nanaki, The Bordellos, and a lot more. Here's the first track off the comp, by Phil Reynolds and the Herald Angels. It's a rocker:

Germany's soul/funk re-issue label Tramp Records has a new Christmas comp out as well. This is Timi Terrific and the Redheads. I'm not sure when this is from -- late 70s, early 80s, I guess:

This bedroom freak-pop from Louisiana band Emotional and Minneapolis' Lawn Chair Records is from the fall:

Super-rockin' from a Minneapolis band and a London label:

A rarities and b-sides album from another Minneapolis band, The Soviettes. Great pop-punk from 2010:

Dig this Ramones-y garage punk from Germany, 2012:

These next two tracks are both from garage-happy PNKSLM:

Open Mike Eagle is hip-hop from LA and Arizona's awesome Mello Music Group:

Heavy-ish punk from Oakland band and Portland's Resurrection Records:

Another heavy track from Sorry State Records' North Carolina Series of seven inches:

Noisey hardcore from Olympia, Washington:

Cool new post-punk two song 7" from Strasborg, France:

Finally, some super-freaky spoken word from Philidelphia:
