Also from California, of course Nails' 2016 3 song EP Obscene Humanity is bad ass:
Critical Threat -- 4 song demo, Arizona oi:
Brand new nutty French powerviolence -- 21 songs, around 20 minutes. One song is called "Our Kids Will Spit On Us," and if that's not a reason for you to check this out, I dunno what you're even doing here. On this planet, I mean:
Three song release from Spanish hc trio Chimpancé:
If it's punk and from the Netherlands, odds are I'll like it. Those folks know how to do it:
Poland's Syf Records, who I've featured a number of times on CNQ, because they're awesome, has another awesome release:
I think I missed this August 2021 release from Omaha's best, BIB:
And finally, shameless self-promotion dept., the Legless Crabs have a new album out on Metal Postcard Records, and between you and me, it kicks ass:
California-based one man powerviolence band XGRIFOX has a new split with Oakland's Choke! The Choke! songs are good hardcore, and XGRIFOX is quickly becoming one of my new favorite rock'n'rollers. XGRIFOX takes rock'n'roll, distills it down to its quintessence, fills up a syringe with it, and then injects it with a dirty needle into your soul, man, for real:
I see XGRIFOX has an even more recent release, a split with a Chilean band called Jack Slater.
The Jack Slater side is good:
And again, there is something elemental about XGRIFOX:
Another longtime CNQ fave, 4:44, has released a lot of material on Bandcamp since last I checked in with him. It's in my queue but I haven't listened to any of it, no doubt to my detriment. Here's a song called "The Golden Age of Late Night," from 4:44's latest Bandcamp release, Songs from Cellar Heaven, and it's quality alt-pop, which I've come to expect from the singer-songwriter from Philidelphia. I need to catch up with the rest of his recent releases:
Fight the Vomit is hardcore out of Phoenix. This appears to be their first digital release, six songs. You know how metal and punk mutated into thrash and powerviolence? The immediate, living sound that is Fight the Vomit, man, this is it, we're living the dream right now with this:
Throat are a 4 piece noise rock outfit from Finland. Their latest album, "Smile Less," was released back in May. This single, "Shots," is super solid:
The Ducks' new single and video, "Bag For Life," is what I'm here for. The Ducks are from the UK:
Seattle's Iron Lung Records is a record label, but I guess maybe also a band? Not sure, but they found physical copies of this powerviolence effort from 2013, and they're already all sold out, but you can listen to the full album here. A Bandcamp fan comment says "not for pussies or morons." Okie-dokey -- so I guess it's for dicks and genius-level intellects. At any rate, it's heavy, I like it:
Atlanta's Already Dead Tapes and Records has released this single off a new tape that you can pre-order. Crazy noise, love it:
You can get all of Liquid's 15 album discography for $5. A one person act from Indiana, apparently. Their latest release, from January, is a full length called "Life is pain Idiot." Really fun stuff:
This is new from Abnormal Broadcasting, out of California. The band is called P.E.A.R.L. and their new 4 song demo is the type of raw hc I'm really into. Their Bandcamp page says "This is for the queers who have had enough of that trans misogynist bullshit. No one deserves to be left out. Fight back till you die." Which I think is cool but tbh I dunno what "trans misogynist bullshit" is. I'm gonna assume it's something non-inclusive and that I would be against it.
Here's the first song off the EP, they've got cassettes available on the page:
Six song album "Joy of Life" from Polish powerviolence band Low Standards. Heavy as the af, I'm into it:
And here's Iron Filth, Indonesian powerviolence! This song is called "Lumut Kemunafikan Dunia," and it's off Iron Filth's six song effort "Lethargic Dialogue" originally released back in 2014 but due out on cassette soon.
The Nods are garage rock from Salt Lake City. This is the b-side from their new cool 2 song 7":
This is from a crazy little six song demo from Olympia, Washington's Scrivener. A lo-fi Devo devotional, reminds me of the Ausmuteants, but the best parts of it remind me of early Gene Ween. Completely enjoyable demo:
Tramp Records is killing it, bringing to light so much cool stuff:
This is the heaviest. Just listen to the whole thing -- what else have you got going on?
NYC HC from Toxic State records. The Grave Mistake Records update calls this self titled 5-song 7" "essential." Check it out:
California HC. Whole 11 song album is killer, but here's just one track:
The UK's Mind Ripper Collective has this split between powerviolence acts Endless Swarm (from Edinburgh) and Dallas' Pavel Chekov available as pay what thou wilt. Here's the whole dang thing, clocks in maybe even a little under 10 minutes:
More groovy Peruvian neo-psych from Kanaku Y El Tigre and Tiger's Milk Records:
Donald Trump sucks! That being said, let's get further caught up with email submissions and bandcamp updates:
Alt-rock from a Dublin based band that's been around for six years, but are now calling it quits. This is from their final album, called "Takes Forever."
Psych-pop Krautgaze from Sweden:
Detroit based resident producer for Mello Music Group:
California hardcore stalwarts BL'AST are back after a 20 year interim, with a 2 song EP and Dave Grohl on drums:
Rest of the set list tonight is grindcore and/or powerviolence. After a few years now of enjoying both, I still dunno the difference between them. This is from the UK:
A two song EP from Massachusetts:
Belgian political grindcore band Agathocles has been around for a while, apparently. This is from a full length album originally released in 2001, newly re-released by Poland's Self-Made God:
I tend to like just about everything Baltimore's SPHC puts out. Agathocles and California's Godstomper actually have a split together, from an '89 live show. I'm not sure when this song was originally released:
That brings us up into November for CNQ submissions and updates. More to come.
Great new hip-hop, rad video. This premiered on The Source but just in case you missed it, check it out. "Put a rapper in a wheelchair like Degrassi" wins my vote for coolest line of 2015:
More wild stuff from the same duo, featuring DJ Starscream of Slipknot:
And one more, featuring Kurupt and a MASH sample:
Instrumental hip-hop from CNQ frequent feature artist Sir Froderick. You can pre-order the vinyl, due out Spring of next year:
New rock video from California twins and Burger Records:
If yr truly hep, you know this is a supergroup featuring members of Tacocat, Chasity Belt, and Pony Time. If yr not so hep, get that way:
Song, by Toad Records has put out a comp of new Scottish lo-fi rock bands called David Cameron's Eton Mess, available on vinyl. Here's one track:
New rocker from CNQ fave Small Bear Records:
I grabbed this 7" from Give Praise Records and do not regret it. Punk, metal, power violence, whatever you wanna call it, it's rad:
Glammy punk from Cleveland's The Nico Missle:
Be sure to check out CNQ bud I Heart Noise's new Boston/Mass.-centric blog, Boston Becomes Ecletic!
From a new Iron Boots LP comp collecting the Virginian hardcore punk band's complete discography, courtesy Grave Mistake Records and Triple B Records. Solid hc:
Debut album from hip-hop duo Mirage512 and Side Effect. Top notch "grown man rap":
Speaking of grown man rap, Big Pooh of Little Brother fame has a new album out with producer Nottz:
Australia's Simo Soo has a new ten track album out too. Glitch pop? Digital glam-rap? Noisy no-rave forever:
Lo-fi fun from Lexington, Kentucky. 17 track cassette available through Burger Records:
Two tracks from an unreleased split, courtesy Baltimore's SPHC records. Audacious noise punk, I love it:
Flowers of Evil has already gotten some real press courtesy Noisey; here's a track from their new LP put out by Canada's Deranged Records anyway. One of the guys in the band is from Crocodiles, and their garage-psych album "Boys" is one of the best listens of 2015, in my opinion.
Don't forget Austin's bad ass noise-enthusiasts Future Death have cassettes of their "Cryptids" EP still available:
Another cassette release, also with a female vocalist, from an Ohio 3-piece band:
Cool garage pop from Sweden, solo project of Nora Karlsson, recently signed to PNKSLM:
New track from Italian garage band The Meteopathics, off a tape split with Thee Loyal Wankers, courtesy German label Lo-fi Lo-life:
Speaking of Italians, here's some rad Italian powerviolence; with song titles like "Mullet For My Valentine," "Sperm Bank Robbery," and "Go Kart Kobain," I think they may be in a band just for the pun of it:
And to top things off, a quick blast of warp-core from Dallas:
